Dr. Bunyaporn Chandra-Chamnong, a Thai ophthalmologist, participated as a volunteer specialist with Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) in a charitable retinal surgery mission for underprivileged patients at Mandalay Eye and Ear Hospital, Republic of the Union of Myanmar, from 18–24 September 2017.
The humanitarian surgical program was led by Associate Professor Mitchell V. Brinks, M.D., M.P.H., a specialist in Global Ophthalmology from OHSU, in collaboration with Dr. Hlaing Win, M.D., from Mandalay Eye and Ear Hospital. The team successfully performed retinal surgeries on a total of 12 eyes, helping to restore vision and significantly improve the quality of life for patients with limited access to ophthalmic care.
This mission reflects the power of international medical collaboration and the compassion of volunteer physicians working together to bring essential eye care to those most in need and reducing global disparities in eye care and ophthalmic treatment.
